Contest #1
Focus on a Character
Prompt: Choose one of these three prompts:
- Write a script redeeming your least favorite character.
- Write a script that features either a fabled or a traveller. The expectation is that the script only really works with this role in play.
- Write a single demon script with maximum replayability.
Winner - Voudon Parliament by Sneaky Ben
This script is built around the Voudon. When playing, it is recommended to have the Voudon in play from the start of the game.
Aesthetic
You are now in the chambers of the Voudon. The gallery opens before you as a lively place of conversation, until you realize that your fate will be determined by the voices of ghosts in the assembly at the front of the hall. Shivers crawl down your spine, as you know not whether the demon haunts these chambers from the assembly of ghosts or the gallery of the living. With a sharp BANG the Voudon lowers her gavel. Parliament is now in session.
Artist's Statement
For the script competition I have chosen the prompt focusing on a traveler or fabled. This script focuses on the Voudon, a traveler we rarely play with, and one which I really want to explore with this group.
- There is a healthy mix of characters that do and no not want to die.
- There is not much droison on this script, however there isn't much information either, and up to two starting good players might be playing for the evil team by the end of the game.
- The evil team has expendable minions and either an Imp or Zombuul that can join the Voudon's assembly early.
- The Vigormortis is commonly cited as a weak demon, whereas it is very powerful on this script.
- Evil gets a lot of extra kills but they need to be careful with the Mayor, Farmer, Monk and Poppy Grower.
- The evil team gets more agency than usual in a Poppy Grower game because the Assassin and Godfather can just kill themselves to get a vote in the assembly.
- The Golem is nearly a townsfolk on this script, but town may get lost if they can't figure out which demon is in play.
Honorable Mention - Catch Me If You Can by Dale
I started to call this one "Who tf is the demon?" but I think this title was a little better.
This is a solo Imp script that features a good amount of mobility, and even the ability for the summoner to choose who becomes the demon on night 3. Between the summoner, the star pass, the barber, and the scarlet woman, it can be tricky for even a well-informed town to capture that pesky Imp.
The gossip and the assassin give reasons for a night 2 death, which could potentially hide a Summoner.
The Amnesiac and the Drunk give the storyteller some flexibility with info, and the Balloonist allows for a little bit of outsider manipulation.
Some cool interactions that we don't see too often.
- Summoner + Marionette
- Summoner + Knight
Honorable Mention - Dead Wrong by Haywire
Are you tired of having to figure out if your information is poisoned or not? Have you been the Steward who saw the Boffin-Alchemist-Spy Demon one too many times? Well then, do I have the script for you. The only Demon is a Vortox, so your townsfolk information is definitely, absolutely, 100% wrong... right?
Well, unless it's a starting summoner game. Or the Vortox chose a Goon last night. Or it's a Minstrel day. Or you're the Drunk (or was that the Marionette?)
This script focuses on Townsfolk who remain interesting when their information is Vortox-ed. A Savant learns 2 false statements every day. A Bounty Hunter can build strong good confirmation chains at the cost of killing Townsfolk. A Balloonist learns all of one character type (likely Outsiders or Minions). A King can learn what roles aren't in play to eliminate bluffs, and a Choirboy (which is far more likely to go off since the Vortox won't know who the King is) can eliminate a suspicious player as a Demon candidate.
Beyond that, there is a focus on building a subgame of protecting/preventing night deaths. If there is a night of no deaths, town has to decide if it is due to a Monk, Soldier, Minstrel, Goon or demon sinking, and whether or not some players may have gotten non Vortox-ed information. (A Balloonist's character type might switch, an empath gets true values, a savant gets 1 true/1 false, etc).
Honorable Mention - Four Minutes to Save the World by Cute Mage
Contest #2
The Clocktower Mixtape
Prompt: Write a script inspired by a song or a piece of music.
Winner - Everything You Know is Wrong by Cute Mage
PDF | JSON | YouTube Video
“Everything You Know Is Wrong” sounds like the anthem for a Vortox, and so it would be simple to make a Vortox-only script. However, let’s go further, and see what other Demons we can add. Vortox and Legion are a well-known pair thanks to correct Legion information sounding like Vortox’d information. No Dashii allows for a lot of the grim to be poisoned, but if we’re going to make everything wrong, why even have an Evil team? Let’s put in an Atheist.
The rest of the write-up can be found here. (It's 3 pages. It's a lot.)

Honorable Mention - Union Maid by Sneaky Ben
PDF | JSON | YouTube Video
Aesthetic
“Oh you can’t scare me, I’m sticking to the union…’til the day I die!”
The breakroom door flies open and a burly man with a yellow vest bursts across the threshold and an unreadable face. He starts scanning the room. You instinctively put down your coffee and book, to check your phone. Holy shit, 7 missed texts from the cute boy who slipped you a union pamphlet last week (with his number scribbled on the back). You glance through the messages: several team leaders and coworkers are being questioned and a union vote is only days away.
A monotone voice rasps “Jones, Casey? In 20 minutes, please report to room 152 for a mandatory meeting with your section supervisor”. The security guard leaves as quickly as he appeared.
Other faces in the break room turn to you, anxious and expectant. You keep your eyes down and wonder if this is the consequence of your actions yesterday—finally losing your temper and shouting yourself hoarse after another of your friends was harassed by the new security goons over bullshit claims of corporate espionage.
You didn’t really fancy yourself a union girlie, you just try to speak up when your friends need protecting. But now it’s time to decide, when the boss questions you, will you rat out the lefties to save yourself, or hold the line?
Artist Statement
This script is meant to be an ode to unions. Good characters are almost entirely comprised of working class jobs, eg. Farmer, Chambermaid, Butler, Fisherman, etc. Evil characters are thematically meant to thwart union organizing, or are representing evil capitalists.
About the Characters
Characters explicitly mentioned:
- “Of the goons and ginks and the company finks…”
- “The union maid was wise to the tricks of company spies”
- “maid” is meant as wife (feminism was…different in the 40s), but I’m interpreting it as a chambermaid. You could also interpret it as washerwoman or butler.
Minions represent threats to worker solidarity in the form of:
- Company Spy: trying to infiltrate the union to unravel them from within
- Devil’s Advocate: in this case a lawyer representing the interests of the company
- Assassin: when legal threats are not enough, the company may be willing to permanently silence the union leaders
- Baron: self explanatory lol
The demon choices are also poetic:
- Legion: forcing workers to be brutal in their assessment of who is sympathetic to the cause or just trying to infiltrate
- Shabaloth: there is no ethical “consumption” under capitalism!
- Lleech: exploiting our labor, of course
Gameplay
The script turned out somewhat BMR-like. The additional night deaths are meant to keep the pace up in response to execution prevention and Legion vote hesitancy. While Lleech + DA and Spy + Assassin/Shab are pretty brutal, the good team have several confirmation abilities and two which are hard to bluff (Farmer and Nightwatchman).
Key interactions
- Spy, Undertaker, Librarian, Washerwoman, Gambler
- Lleech, DA, Pacifist, Sailor
- Shab, Gambler, Assassin, Tinker
- Butler, Goon. (The butler may wish to stay alive for this reason)
Honorable Mention - The Wizard and I by LaRell
PDF | JSON | YouTube Video
The Wizard and I script centers around a Storm-Caught Poppy Grower, where the evil team does not know each other. The heart of the script is inspired by the song The Wizard and I from Wicked. Inspired by The Wizard of Oz and Wicked, the script explores the blurred lines between good and evil—where characters are often unsure who they can trust.
The song begins with the character Madame Morrible, who convinces a naive Elphaba to use her powers for what she believes is good — but which ultimately turns out to serve evil purposes. Elphaba’s motivation is pure: she dreams of finally meeting the Wizard.
By creating the Storm-Caught Poppy Grower, the script mirrors this relationship: the desire of the witch (Elphaba) to find the Wizard (two minions on the script). Additionally, there is a Summoner, who can bring about a demon. Elphaba represents the witch and summoner while Madame Morrible represents the other two minions. The final minion is Mezepheles, a playful nod to the spirit of Wicked, representing the essence of convincing someone to join a side without them fully realizing it. This idea is central to The Wizard and I as Madame Morrible persuades Elphaba to unknowingly join the evil team.
I love the concept of Yaggababble for a Wicked-inspired script because later in Wicked, Elphaba’s words and choices have consequences and this captures that theme perfectly. Nothing represents Wicked or The Wizard of Oz better than the chaos of Yaggababble
The second demon is the Vortox, a direct reference to the tornado that brings Dorothy to Oz. Like the tornado, the Vortex transforms information and causes confusion throughout the town.
The rest of the characters in the script are also inspired by The Wizard of Oz and Wicked: Balloonist - Wizard, Huntsman - Tin Man, Damsel - Dorothy, Savant - Nessa, Saint - Flying Monkeys, VI - Munchkins.
Contest #3
Spooky Script Showdown
Prompt: Create a Halloween themed or inspired character and build a script around it.
Winner - The Unquiet Dead by Haywire
The number one rule of a Ouija board is that you must end it by saying goodbye. Well, the minions of Ravenswood Bluff have decided that a vengeful spirit loose on the town is exactly what they want, and this seems like a perfect way to make that happen. The Possessed runs around town at the behest of the minions, taking control of townsfolk for a day (or a few), then killing them and moving right along. When formerly possessed townsfolk wake, they are once again good, and free to tell town to be on the lookout. But when they could be a Legion, Vigor-killed minion, or a former Fang Gu, it might be hard for town to bring themselves to trust the recently deceased, no matter how valuable their input.
Honorable Mention - Mischief Night by Erin
Trickster - Minion
Each night, choose 2 living players. Abilities that would target a chosen player target the other player instead.
What is Halloween without the trick-or-treaters? The problem is there are usually far more treats than tricks. The Trickster aims to fix that.
The Trickster's goal is cause mayhem throughout the town. It swaps the target of all abilities of one chosen player with another player, creating all sorts of chaos from information that could technically be true. True and sober info isn't as reliable as it should be when you don't know which person you actually targeted with your ability. The town must work to figure out if their info is true, poisoned, or tricked.
Examples:
- The Trickster swaps the No Dashii with the Monk. The Dreamer targets the Monk with their ability, and are shown 'Savant and No Dashii' because their actual target was the demon
- The Trickster swaps the Gambler with the Imp. The Gambler gambles themselves as the Gambler, and dies to their own ability.
- The Trickster Swaps the Fang Gu with the Seamstress. The Nightwatchman chooses to send their ping to the Seamstress. The Seamstress does not receive the ping, but the Fang Gu does
Honorable Mention - Roll Tide by LaRell
Roll Tide is a love letter to my time living in the South. I used to live in Georgia and in Arkansas, and let me tell you—there has never been a more enthusiastic group than Alabama fans, who greet each other with a hearty “Roll Tide!” For context, in Philly, we greet each other with “Go Birds,” but in the South, it was always “Roll Tide.”
There’s nothing stronger than family in the South, and that’s the inspiration behind this script. It’s all about team, family, and trust.
I also want to introduce a new character: a minion named Leatherface.. You might recognize the ability—it’s based on one of my earlier custom scripts, but I’ve reworked it to give it a name that better reflects what it does.
Here’s how it works:
On the first night, Leatherface chooses a good player. Leatherface gains that player’s ability and then poisons them.
This creates a lot of opportunities for deception. Add in roles like the Pixie, Philo, Amni, and even a potential Drunk, and evil players have plenty of cover while good players get some strong abilities to balance it out, especially Cult Leader which can bring the family together.
For minions, we’ve also got roles like the Evil Twin, which ties roles together in a fun way, and the Boffin, giving demons access to a good character’s ability.
Speaking of demons, there are four on this script:
- Lil Monster, which creates more of a team dynamic,
- Legion, where majority is on the same evil team,
- Leech, allows misinformation to lead to either success or dead-ends
- Riot, which leans into the outburst chaos, perfectly fitting the “family” Roll Tide theme.
This script is about teamwork, family bonds, and the mayhem that happens when both sides have powerful tools at their disposal.
Honorable Mention - World Wide Web by Cute Mage
You know that feeling you get when you walk into a spiderweb? That sticky feeling followed by the flailing trying to get all the web off of you? Well, what if that feeling never went away?
The Lolthnea is a Spider Demon that ensnares players who try to affect it, ensuring that they stay poisoned for the rest of the game. So if you're information is wrong, maybe you selected a Lolthnea at some point, and you will never shake that poison.
This script plays similarly to SnV where the main source of misinformation is coming from the Demon, so solving for the Demon type is incredibly important. However, the Boffin allows many of the town abilities to be used against them. The Pukka could have a Lycanthrope ability, hiding the poisoning. The Vortox could have the Innkeeper ability, potentially making people drunk and stopping a Lycanthrope. The No Dashii could have the Goon ability, imitating a Lolthnea. Did someone just survive execution? Congrats! They're either the Fool... or the Demon.
This script is meant to be played with the following rules:
- The Village Idiot made drunk from their own setup ability can receive true information even when affected by a Vortox.
- The Wraith alternate rule is in play.
